His career commenced in 1987 when he was still playing for the Ohio State University Buckeyes. It was then that the Philadelphia Eagles hooked him. Due to some off-field issues, he was removed from the team by the coach Buddy Ryan in 1989. Soon enough, he was signed by the Vikings and ended up keeping virtually all the team records to himself.
When in high school, Carter took interest in both football and basketball. Earl Bruce the trainer of the State team approached Carter to join the team — he thus became the first All American at wide receiver.
In 1987 Carter started playing with all the Eagles. He was later dropped from your team due to Carter’s drug problem. In September 1990, he was claimed by the Vikings. The 1990 campaign ended with 27 receptions for 413 yards and 3 TDs. The whole of 1990s finished with Carter establishing a record of 835 receptions and was named in the All Decade team by the NFLs. On 2nd February 2013, Carter was announced as an inductee to the Hall of Fame Class of 2013.
