When his family relocated to Orleans, Ontario, he joined Cumberland Barons’ Major Bantam AA and Minor Midget AA. Though undrafted, he still played during the 2004 Ontario Hockey League for the Cumberland Grads. He joined the Gatineau Olympiques and contributed 39 goals, 103 points in 69 games with the team.
