Shortly after earning his master’s degree from the Yale School of Drama, Grier started his career by starring in the Broadway musical “The First”. He also got a role in the hit musical “Dreamgirls” as well as the play “A Soldier’s Play”. He got his first film role in the 1983 film “Streamers”. It earned his master’s a Golden Lion award. He also landed a role in the 1984 film “A Soldier’s Story”, an adaptation of “A Soldier’s Play”. He played in other movies such as “From the Hip”, “Off Limits” and “Almost an Angel”.
Certainly one of the best moments of Grier’s career was to the Emmy Award-winning comedy show “In Living Color”. Through the entire run of the show from 1990 to 1994, Grier created memorable characters that ranged from dynamic kids to irritable old men.
