Jim Bittermann is the Senior European Correspondent at CNN, based in Paris. Before joining CNN, he worked with ABC News, NBC, and the news magazine of Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. During his career as correspondent, he’s won many prestigious awards such as the Chevalier Award. Bittermann wed Patricia Thompson, who was an Emmy award winning television producer. Jim Bittermann started his career in Television Journalism in the year 1970, when he joined WTMJ TV in Milwaukee. Prior to that, he did a short stint as news reporter at the Waukegan News-Sun, Illinois. He afterwards worked with WKYC TV, WQED TV after which as producer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporations newsmagazine. He switched to NBC News in 1978 as European correspondent, when he covered the Papal transitions as well as the tours of Pope John Paul II. In 1996, he joined CNN as the European Correspondent based in Paris. He was granted the CableACE Award for his coverage of the Zaire civil war, when he worked at CNN. He was bestowed with the much acclaimed Chevalier of the National Order of the Legion of Honor in recognition of his work. He’s been reporting news from France for almost three decades. The award founded in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte is granted for the excellent achievements generally aimed at French nationals. Bittermann was the second man after Pierre Salinger in the area of American Journalism to receive that award.
