Couric was also selected to be a Senior Resident of The Yard. The newswomans grandparents on her mothers side were Jewish immigrants from Germany and on her dads side, Couric traced her lineage back into a French orphan who immigrated to America and became a cotton agent. Couric started her career at ABC in 1979 later joining CNN as an assignment editor. In 1989 couric became a Pentagon Correspondent for NBC.
