She worked for a number of years in Omaha, Nebraska as a graphic designer, subsequently chose to pursue an acting career. Petty started her professional acting career on television using a guest starring role on Freddy’s Nightmares: A Nightmare on Elm Street The Series. In the late 1980s, she’d appeared in guest-starring parts on several shows, including the 1987 iteration of Bates Motel, Miami Vice, Alien Nation, and Booker. Throughout the early 1990s, Lori started working in film, getting her first part in Cadillac Man. She was featured in her best known character in the 1992 movie A League of their Own, opposite Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna. From then, Petty appeared in a string of popular movies through the 1990s. These comprised Free Willy, Poetic Justice, and Tank Girl. Most recently, she appeared in the series finale of Prison Break, in addition to the television show The Cleaner. She also made her directorial debut in The Poker House,which won prizes in the Los Angeles Film Festival.
